ADVANTAGES OF WEB APPLICATIONS

Web applications are applications that are accessed via a standard web browser over the network such as the internet (or an intranet).

From the very definition of a web application follow most of its benefits :

• a high degree of accessibility: a growing number of devices are equipped with internet access and some kind of browsing software: PCs, notebooks, smartphones,... Wherever you are, you have access to your web application !
• the availability of (real-time) information: the actual application runs on a so-called web server; through this server all authorized users have access to the same real-time information. There is no need to synchronize after a long day on the road,...
• easy maintenance : a web application does not need to be installed on a device of the end user; updates or bugfixes are immediately available to everyone without the need for on-site interventions.
• easy integration with other applications: the technological evolution and the development of standard protocols (SOAP,...) create an environment in which web applications can easily exchange information with other applications (other web applications, ERP systems, databases,...).

The "classical website" probably remains the best known web application but since the dawn of the internet things have evolved at a tremendous pace and some of the following web applications are probably also familiar to you:  webshops, content management systems for websites, webmail,...
