YOUR VALUEBYTES ACCOUNT: YOUR PROTECTED WEBSPACE
Many websites have a so-called protected webspace. It is a part of the website that is only accessible after login with a valid combination of a username and a corresponding password. The ValueBytes website also has a protected webspace that is only accessible to holders of a ValueBytes account (to which a unique username and a password are linked). In this demo you will learn how a visitor of the ValueBytes website can create a ValueBytes account, activate this account and finally log in into the protected webspace. In case you would have forgotten your password you will see that is it straightforward to choose a new password without the intervention of an administrator.
CREATE AN ACCOUNT
To create your own ValueBytes account (giving you access to demos,...), you have to click here and then click on the button "Create account". en vervolgens op de knop "Account creëren" te klikken. Besides some personal info such as first and last name, you will have to provide an email address and choose a pasword.
Make sure you enter an email address to which you have access since an activation email will be sent to that emailaddress. Without that activation email you will not be able to activate your account as will be discussed next.
ACTIVATE YOUR ACCOUNT
Check your mailbox. You should have received an activation email. The sender of this email is info@valuebytes.eu. In order to activate your account, you have to click on the activation link in the message.
In case you would not have received the above mentioned activation email after 5 minutes, it is possible that the activation email was qualified as spam. Most email programs divert spam messages to a so-called spambox. You can always check to see if the activation email is in that spambox. You still cannot find the activation email? No panic, you can request anew activation email by clicking here. In most cases you can avoid the spam problems you might have experienced by adding the address info@valuebytes.eu to the contacts in your address book.
SIGN IN
Now that you have activated your account, you can sign in here. Enter the email address that you have just provided and the password that you have chosen and click the button "Sign in". If you signed in correctly you should see your name and email address appear in the top left corner of the web page. You are now ready to try out other demos such as RestoPolis.
SIGN OUT
After a certain time of inactivity, you are signed out automatically. If you want to sign out yourself, you can do so by clicking the "Signout" link in the top left corner of the webpage.
FORGOT PASSWORD?
Suppose you come by again in a few weeks and you try to sign in by filling out your email address and your password. Suppose you forgot your password (so do the test and deliberately fill out the wrong password). You get an error message telling you that the password is not correct. The message also contains a link allowing you to choose a new password. Click on that link.
CHOOSE A NEW PASSWORD
You arrive on a page where you have to provide your email address and some signs that are "hard to read". This is a so-called een captcha that allows to test (to some degree) if a true human is filling out the form and not some kind of spambot. After submitting the form, an email will be sent to the entered email address. Click on the link in that message and you will be allowed to choose a new password. Next you can click here to verify that you can sign in with the new password.
